Prof. Emeka Iweala
Professor Emeka Eze Joshua Iweala is currently a Professor of Biochemistry at the Covenant University, Nigeria. He had his professional training at the Imo State University (Now Abia State University) and University of Nigeria where he obtained the B.Sc, M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Biochemistry. He also obtained a Master of Science degree in Public health from the University of Lagos. He worked for over twelve years as a lecturer and researcher in Biochemistry at the Abia State University, Nigeria prior to joining Covenant University in 2009. He was a recipient of the 2012 CAS-TWAS Visiting Scholar Fellowship tenable at the Kunming Institute of Botany, China. His current research focuses on the role of Nigerian plant foods in chemoprevention of diseases and public health nutrition. He is the leader of the Nutrition chemoprevention research group as well as an active member of the Covenant University Public health and wellbeing research group (CUPHWERG). He has published several papers from research spanning nutritional biochemistry, pharmacological biochemistry and public health and presented papers at several local and international scientific meetings. He is a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NISEB) and Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST). He is actively involved in community service and loves travelling and playing chess.
